The Blood Queen's Demise
Posted by Aurelius on January 21st, 2009 @ 4:40 AM
Forlorn Legacy has defeated the final boss of The Crimson Halls in Icecrown Citadel, Blood Queen Lana'thel.

This past Tuesday, Blizzard unlcocked the second wing of Icecrown Citadel - The Crimson Halls! This new wing contains two new boss encounters, The Blood Prince Council and Blood Queen Lana'thel. As usual, we went in on our alts first to check out the new bosses. The Blood Prince Council was relatively easy, seems undertuned to be quite honest. Lana'thel presented a few problems for our alts, but we were able to learn the fight mechanics.
We came back in on our mains today and in a few short attempts we had our kill (9/15 Attempts Remaining). This fight relies heavilly on "bite" coordination, about 15 seconds into the encounter, Blood Queen Lana'thel will bite a random DPS, this applies the Essence of the Blood Queen debuff for one minute, in order to maintain this, that person must bite another player every 60 seconds or they will become mind controlled. Each player that is bitten must continue to bite another player, eventually you will run out of people to bite. The key to this fight is to bite the next player at the last possible moment (right as Frenzied Bloodthirst is about to expire), to delay the eventual mind controls. If bites are managed well, and your DPS doesn't suck, you should have a relatively easy kill.

Great News, Everybody!

On our final attempt for the week, Forlorn Legacy has defeated the final boss of the Plageworks in Icecrown Citadel, Professor Putricide!

For a normal difficulty encounter, Professor Putricide is somewhat of a challenge, which, up until now, Icecrown Citadel hasn't offered much of. We did a lot of research and theorycrafting on this fight before attempting it, we even went so far as to form a raid with our alts in an attempt to get a better feel for the fight mechanics. Our efforts certainly paid off, as we were able to defeat Professor Putricide with 1 attempt remaining.

Let's See, Where To Begin...
Posted by Aurelius on October 21st, 2009 @ 2:55 AM
Tonight Forlorn Legacy killed Anub'arak on 25 Player Heroic Difficulty with 50 attempts remaining, earning us a server first "Grand Crusader" title and a US 15th/World 40th
rank! Earlier in the night we also managed to defeat Festergut in Icecrown Citadel!

For the past few weeks we've suffered a great deal of frustration with Anub'arak, most notably a 200k wipe just last week with 50 attempts remaining, and a 49 attempt kill the week before. While we are happy with our rank I truly think Icecrown will be the instance that defines high end raiding guilds.
So what's next for Forlorn Legacy? Lots of PTR testing (we hope) and many offnights! There's also the "A Tribute to Immortality" achievement, for which a world first has yet to be claimed. I would go on a rant about how immortal style achievements shouldn't exist in the game...but i'll save that for another time ;)

Just like Lord Marrowgar, Festergut is also an extremely easy raid encounter that we certainly expect to be buffed in the future. The fight is so extremely simple that I don't even feel an explanation is warranted, so i'll just leave you with the video!

Lord Marrowgar Down on PTR
Posted by Aurelius on October 15th, 2009 @ 2:55 AM
Easy boss is easy, Forlorn Legacy has defeated the first encounter of Icecrown Citadel, Lord Marrowgar. We expect many changes between now and when 3.3 goes live!

Today was the first day of PTR testing for the Icecrown Citadel raid zone. We were able to test the first encounter, Lord Marrowgar. The encounter was fairly simple and while it was on normal mode, it will more than likely be buffed and retested in the future.
Guess what? Forlorn Legacy is recruiting! We have ONE healer position available for one extremely talented Holy/Discipline Priest, Holy Paladin, Restoration Shaman or Restoration Druid. Priests should be able to play Holy and Discipline (and provide logs for both), bonus points if you can play Shadow as well. Any Paladins/Shaman/Druids should also be able to play their DPS offspec.

Azjol-Nerub Was Merely A Setback!
Posted by Aurelius on September 20th, 2009 @ 2:55 AM
On our third week in Trial of the Grand Crusader we have defeated the the final encounter of the instance - Anub'arak!

US 7th & World 17th. So far, this has been the only truly challenging encounter in the Crusaders' Coliseum. Beasts took us a few attempts, and we proceeded to one shot Jaraxxus and the Faction Champions (we were carried by the PVP'ers in the guild) and even the Twin Val'kyr went down pretty quick.
Anub'arak is a very straightforward encounter. Phase 1 & 2 are fairly simple once you learn how to manage your permafrost. Unfortunately, there are quite a few RNG components that will cause a wipe. The only real challenging part of this boss is Phase 3 (30%) when he casts Leeching Swarm on the raid. During this phase Anub’arak will continue to place Penetrating Cold on 5 targets roughly every 20 seconds, major props to our healers for devising a system to keep those targets alive without the use of any special mods.

Alone In The Darkness
Posted by Aurelius on August 9th, 2009 @ 2:46 AM
After four long months, Forlorn Legacy has fully cleared Ulduar Hard Mode by completing our last hard mode achievement, Alone In The Darkness - Yogg-Saron without any watchers assisting.

14 Bosses & 10 Hard Modes later...we still don't know how to take screenshots, oh well, there's always Icecrown I suppose! Maybe I should start docking DKP for crappy screenshots... ;)
US 17th & World 37th. Sadly, this is a post nerf kill, I am confident that we could have killed the original version eventually but Patch 3.2 snuck up on us faster than we anticipated. Even considering the nerfs the fight is still quite challenging.
The difficulty in this encounter lies within Phase 3, without Watcher Thorim assisting, the Immortal Guardians do not die, which means they all have to be offtanked. Every 45 seconds Yogg-Saron will cast Empowering Shadows on 3 of the Immortal Guardians, this will trigger a 20 seconds HoT that will heal the targeted mob and any other mobs within 20 yards. Since the adds to less damage as their health gets lower, you'll want to minimize healing by separating them.
Major congratulations to Aiurr, our recruitment officer, for winning the roll on Mimiron's Head, the only extra loot you get for completing Alone in The Darkness (beyond the 239 item from 1 Watcher). The lucky son of a bitch rolled a 100!

Algalon Observed
Posted by Aurelius on July 18th, 2009 @ 11:29 PM
After four weeks/hours of attempts, Forlorn Legacy has defeated Algalon The Observer! The final boss encounter in the Ulduar raid instance.

With this kill, our rank is now US 19th & World 40th, not so bad, but we could have done a lot better in my opinion. We would have had Algalon dead last week had it not been for our terrible server crashing 10 minutes into our hour of attempts.Of course we attempted to contact a GM but they were less than helpful. Blizzard, if you're going to create timed encounters like this, take server instability into consideration.
Algalon is not a difficult encounter, it's actually very simple. The only "difficult" part of the encounter is the fact that you only get 1 hour a week to work on him. For the most part, we are done with Ulduar, only one true challenge remains...Yogg-Saron with 0 Watchers, should be pretty fun! Check back in a few days for a pretty awesome Algalon video (at least, I hope).
Update: The Algalon kill video is now available, see below!

Heroic: Glory of The Ulduar Raider
Posted by Aurelius on June 17th, 2009 @ 10:49 PM
On our first night of attempts Forlorn Legacy has completed Heroic: One Light In The Darkness, Yogg-Saron's hard mode! With this kill, we have completed the meta-achievement, Heroic: Glory of the Ulduar Raider!

One Light In The Darkness is a fairly easy hard mode achievement. It only took us about two hours of solid attempts. So what's left for FL? Algalon, who we'll be attempting for the first time this Sunday night. After we save Azeroth from Algalon's wrath, it's just Alone in the Darkness (Yogg-Saron with 0 Watchers). Want in on the action? Well guess what, we're recruiting! See below for more details on what classes we're looking for!
Also on a more personal note, with today's Yogg kill I have completed the quest to form Val'anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings! I got my 30th Fragment just the other night from General Vezax. Soon I'll be releasing a video documenting the short questline and RP event after turning in all of the fragments!

Forlorn Legacy Fire Department
Posted by Aurelius on June 17th, 2009 @ 10:49 PM
After two long weeks, Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: Firefighter! Mimiron's Hard Mode. With this kill, we now have access to Algalon the Observer!

M'uru 2.0. That's all I can say really, Mimiron's Hard Mode is without a doubt the hardest encounter in Ulduar (aside from 0 Watcher Yogg-Saron). It took a few weeks but we finally got our perfect attempt. We could have easilly gotten a kill last week, but we had to replace a few casuals.
After pressing the big red button to enable hard mode, Mimiron's room will begin to explode and spawn doomfire all around the room. I use the term doomfire because it's very similar to the fire from the Archimonde encounter back in Hyjal Summit. In addition to this, Mimiron gains 30% extra damage and health. Throughout the fight Mimiron will try to put out the fires, in each phase he will use a different method to do so.
In Phase 1 he will perform Flame Suppressant, which wipes out all the fires in the room. In Phase 2 he will drop Frost Bombs, which will put out all fires in a certain radius, but also deal 50,000 frost damage to players. In Phase 3, he will spawn Emergency Fire Bots which patrol around the room and put out fires, but also have a 15 yard silencing aura. Finally, in Phase 4, any Emergency Fire Bots that are still up will continue to put out fires, he will also continue using Frost Bombs.
Overall, an extremely challenging encounter that requires an extreme level of coordination and skill. I could not be more proud of our guild for getting this achievement!
All that's left for us is Yogg-Saron Hard Mode and Algalon The Observer!

Saronite is Not Addictive
Posted by Aurelius on May 23rd, 2009 @ 5:41 AM
Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: I Love The Smell of Saronite In The Morning! General Vezax's Hard Mode. This kill puts us at 6th in the United States & 21st in the World for Ulduar Progression.

The hard mode for General Vezax requires you to not kill the Saronite Vapors that spawn during the fight, which means casters will recieve no additional mana. Blizzard was pretty smart with this fight, they pretty much eliminated all forms of mana regeneration, trinkets, mana potions, talents, etc. Pretty much nothing works, with the exception of Judgements of the Wise, Shamanistic Rage, Spiritual Attunement and Aspect of the Viper.
Once 8 Saronite Vapors spawn they will combine and form a large elemental called a "Saronite Animus" which has 12 million HP and casts Profound Darkness on the whole raid every 2 seconds. The ticks start off at 750 shadow damage, increasing by 10% for each tick (750, 825, 900, 975, etc). Once the Animus has been defeated, Vezax loses his immunity shield and you can continue DPS'ing him.
If you're working on this encounter there are a few tricks you can use to help. First and foremost, stack your raid with as many mages as you can get and have them spec 19/0/52, they do an incredible amount of damage on this fight and as frost they consume very little mana. Paladins - spec into Divine Sacrifice & Divine Guardian, also be sure to run your T8 4pc for the set bonus, for roughly 500 mana your sacred shield will absorb a huge amount of damage. Shadow Priests - spec into Improved Vampiric Embrace, even though your healing is low while in shadow crashes, it will still help during Profound Darkness.

Heartbreaker, Dream Maker
Posted by Aurelius on May 21st, 2009 @ 9:46 AM
Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: Heartbreaker! XT-002 Deconstructor's Hard Mode, this is our 6th hard mode kill in Ulduar!

XT-002 Deconstructor is another encounter we spent a lot of time on during the PTR. With the release of Patch 3.1.2, the XT-002 encounter was nerfed, previous to this nerf no guilds were able to kill his hard mode due to the extremely high DPS requirement.
Activating hard mode is quite simple, kill the Heart of the Deconstructor within 30 seconds. Upon destroying the heart XT-002 will heal to full and gain 60% extra HP, bringing him up to around 35 million HP. In hard mode, light bombs will now spawn an add called a "Life Spark" which has around 175k HP and does an AOE to the whole raid and hits for 2000 Nature Damage, Gravity Bombs will now also spawn a void zone when they detonate. The scrap bots from the corners will no longer spawn.
It is important to note that the 10 minute enrage timer starts when you engage the boss, not when you activate hard mode. Based on how long it takes you to burn him to 75% to begin the heart phase, you'll have roughly ~8:30 minutes to complete hard mode.

FL Downs FL Hard Mode
Posted by Aurelius on May 19th, 2009 @ 12:19 AM
Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: Orbit-uary! Flame Leviathan's Hard Mode on our very first night of attempts.

We spent a lot of time on the 3.1 Public Test Realms working on Flame Leviathan and we have been doing 3 towers for a few weeks, so going up to 4 wasn't really all that difficult. Previously we had just been killing the Tower of Storms, which gives Flame Leviathan the Thorim's Hammer ability. Thorim's Hammer deals damage to your entire fleet of vehicles, which gives the fight a soft enrage.
Unfortunately, this fight comes with its share of bugs. Quite a few actually, but one of the most annoying bugs was happening quite frequently tonight. Randomly, the Demolisher Passengers will be unable to pickup Liquid Pyrite, this pretty much will result in a wipe due to the fact that Demolishers without pyrite are effectively useless. Hopefully Blizzard fixes this soon!

Knock, Knock, Knock On Wood!
Posted by Aurelius on May 17th, 2009 @ 11:45 PM
I am proud to announce that Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood, Freya's Hard Mode!

Freya's hard mode has truly been the most challenging encounter in Ulduar thus far! It's a very well tuned fight that requires everyone to think on their feet and not make a single mistake! To me, the difficulty of this encounter is very reminiscent of pre-nerf M'uru.
Hard mode is activated by leaving the three elders in the Conservatory of Life alive, each of them grants two special abilities to Freya, in addition to increasing the HP of the adds and Freya herself. Elder Stonebark grants Freya +50% physical damage as well as the Ground Tremors ability. Elder Ironbranch grants Freya's allies +50% physical damage and the Strengthened Iron Roots ability. Finally, Elder Brightleaf grants Freya's allies +50% magical damage as well as the Unstable Energy ability.
Recruitment Update: Forlorn Legacy is currently recruiting a few select classes to assist with Ulduar Hard Mode. Before applying make sure you check out our Recruitment Center to ensure that FL is right for you. If you do decide to apply, please read the Dear Applicants thread for tips and advice on writing a great application.

I Choose You, Steelbreaker
Posted by Aurelius on May 9th, 2009 @ 2:41 AM
Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: I Choose You, Steelbreaker, The Assembly of Iron's Hard Mode!

The Assembly of Iron, otherwise known as The Iron Council is a very unique encounter similar to the bug trio back in AQ40! The difficulty of this encounter is determined by the order you kill the council members in. Killing Stormcaller Brundir last is the easiest version of the encounter and has no additional loot, killing Runemaster Molgiem last is considered medium difficulty, the only additional loot you will recieve is the Archivum Data Disc, which starts the questline to unlock Algalon the Observer. Finally, killing Steelbreaker last is considered the true hard mode, extra loot includes a Data Disc and an additional item (ilevel 239).
The only challenging part of this encounter is killing Steelbreaker last. When Brundir and Molgiem are both dead Steelbreaker will begin casting Overwhelming Power on whoever is tanking him, this ability will cause the target to die in 30 seconds, but during that time the target will do 200% more damage, this is very similar to Vaelastrasz's Burning Adrenaline. Once the tank dies from this ability, Steelbreaker will heal for 20% of his life (2 million HP) and gain 25% additional damage. Not only is he hitting the tank, but his High Voltage aura is also hitting the rest of the raid, which also increases in damage.

This Cache Was Definitely Rare
Posted by Aurelius on May 5th, 2009 @ 2:41 AM
After just a few attempts, Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: I Could Say That This Cache Was Rare, Hodir's Hard Mode!

This Tuesday during realm maintenance Blizzard applied a hotfix to the Hodir encounter that increased his hard mode timer to 3 minutes, as opposed to 2 minutes. This lowers the raid DPS requirement from 266,666 to a mere 177,777 (Assuming a raid composition of 20 DPS, 4 Healers, 1 Tank). Personally, I think they nerfed this hard mode a bit too much, a more reasonable and challenging timer would have been around 2:30-2:45.
I should have a video of our kill up shortly. Also, some of our DPS requested the parse be posted up for e-peen flexing purposes, click here for the WMO parse! Keep in mind that in this encounter a certain level of RNG plays heavilly into who gets buffs like Storm Power.

Lose Your Illusion Completed!
Posted by Aurelius on May 3rd, 2009 @ 3:00 AM
After a few nights of attempts, Forlorn Legacy has completed the achievement Heroic: Lose Your Illusion, Thorim's Hard Mode!

Hard mode is indeed hard. In order to enable Thorim's hard mode you must complete the tunnel gauntlet in under 3 minutes. Doing this will make Thorim's wife Sif attack the raid with him. She has several abilities which deal heavy AOE damage to the raid - mainly Frost Nova and Frosbolt Volley. She will also cast a Blizzard similar to Sapphiron and Shade of Aran. Adding Sif to the encounter adds a very unique challenge.

Yogg-Saron Defeated
Posted by Aurelius on April 19th, 2009 @ 5:25 PM
The old god of death, Yogg-Saron, has been defeated by Forlorn Legacy! Ulduar has been fully cleared in 5 days, not including achievements and Algalon the Observer of course.

It took a little longer than usual due to some 56k modems failing, but once we learned phase 2, the fight became simple. Phase 1 consists of Guardians of Yogg-Saron, which must be killed near sara, as their explosion will also deal damage to her (and it's the only way to DPS her). When Sara reaches zero health, Phase 2 begins.
In Phase 2 a few raid members will travel into Yogg-Saron's mind to attack his brain directly, which is the only way to do damage to him. The rest of the raid will be killing Crusher Tentacles and Corruptor Tentacles above, this is very similar to the C'Thun encounter, the Crusher Tentacles must be killed as fast as possible, every time they are damaged they gain a stacking debuff that increases its damage done, which means the raid has to stop DPS every so often.
Once Yogg reaches 30%, the third and final phase begins! Yogg-Saron will become vulnerable in phase 3, but you'll also have to deal with Immortal Guardians, which hit like a truck. Yogg also performs his Lunatic Gaze ability, which will require the raid to point their face away. DPS Yogg, DPS the Immortal Guardians, win!
Now our focus will shift to hard mode achievements and ultimately, Mr. Algalon The Observer.
Update: Apologies for the long wait, I blame final exams! It's worth the wait though, because we have not one, but two videos for your viewing pleasure! The first one is by yours truly, Aurelius. I have two versions - HD (1680x1050) and a streaming version through the website. The second video is by Gamas, a mage, he has an HD (1920x1080) version ready for download.

Posted by Aurelius on April 17th, 2009 @ 2:32 PM
Ulduar has now been out for 3 days and since then Forlorn Legacy has managed to defeat an impressive 10 bosses.
Flame Leviathan, Razorscale, XT-002 Deconstructor, The Assembly of Iron, Kologarn, Auriaya, Hodir, Mimiron, Freya & Thorim have all been defeated!

We spent a good part of last night working on General Vezax as well and he should die very quickly tonight, as well as the now fixed Ignis the Furnace Master. Yogg-Saron officially on notice, death expected within 24 hours.

World of Warcraft Patch 3.1 Released
Posted by Aurelius on April 14th, 2009 @ 9:51 AM
It's been roughly 6 months since Wrath of the Lich King was released, and since then the lack of raid content has been detrimental to the raiding community as a whole. Many people questioned if future raid instances would be as easy as Naxxramas. Blizzard has said time and time again that Ulduar will be a challenge. Hardcore raiders everywhere have very high expectations. After few months of testing on the PTR, Ulduar is finally ready!
"Since discovering Ulduar in the Storm Peaks, adventurers have journeyed to the titan city to learn more about its mysterious past. Further exploration has revealed that the magnificent complex is above all a prison, intended to permanently confine the Old God of death, Yogg-Saron. This ancient horror has corrupted its guards, and now it is breaking through the last of its restraints. Faced with the peril of Yogg-Saron's imminent freedom, a band of mortals has made preparations for a sweeping assault on the city. Overcoming the legions of iron minions and towering defenses at the city's entrance will take tremendous strength, but even that great victory may not be enough to overcome the madness that dwells below."
Today, April 14th, 2009 marks the release of the latest World of Warcraft Patch, The Secrets of Ulduar! Aside from the new raid instance, this patch features Class Changes, UI Improvements, Dual Talent Specialization and The Argent Tournament. As always, Forlorn Legacy will be raiding hardcore nonstop
to get these new bosses down, we spent a lot of time on the PTR testing some of these new encounters so we already have a pretty good feel for a majority of the instance.
Check this website daily to keep updated on our progress! I'll be doing my best to upload videos of all the new boss encounters as we defeat them!

Kologarn Defeated on PTR
Posted by Aurelius on March 7th, 2009 @ 9:37 PM

Another night of testing, another encounter defeated! Kologarn is found in the Shattered Walkway, which is just beyond the Antechamber, he must be defeated to create the bridge that leads to The Halls of Winter (Hodir), The Conservatory of Life (Freya), The Clash of Thunder (Thorim) and The Corridors of Ingenuity (Mimirion).
Kologarn is another fairly easy encounter with no hard mode. I think the fight is farily well tuned the way it is. One of the coolest parts about this boss is his death animation, which results in a bridge leading to the next area. Be sure to check out the video!

Oh Dear, Hodir
Posted by Aurelius on March 5th, 2009 @ 9:28 PM

Today we got to test the new version of Hodir. When Hodir was first available for testing we only had enough people on to do the 10 man, which we would have killed had Blizzard not closed the instance. After about an hour of fighting the blue bar boss, we were able to get 25 inside the instance, three attempts later, Hodir was dead. Easy boss, slightly more challenging than Flame Leviathan & Ignis, definately looking forward to the 3 minute kill achievement! Again, please check back later for the video!

Two words come to mind when thinking about this encounter..."severely undertuned." We defeated both the 10 man and 25 man versions. Even though part of the encounter wasn't working it wouldn't have added to the difficulty that much. So far Ulduar is shaping up to be pretty easy...can't wait to get a glimpse at those hard modes! Heroic Glory of the Raider Completed!
Posted by Aurelius on February 11th, 2009 @ 12:22 AM
Today, Forlorn Legacy has completed our final Raid & Dungeon Achievement Heroic: Glory of the Raider! After getting The Immortal last Friday, all that was left was Heroic: The Dedicated Few and Heroic: Subtraction, which we completed earlier today. A total of 21 members recieved Black Proto- Drakes, which fly at 310% speed!
Now that we've completed all the 10 Man and 25 Man Raid and Dungeon Achievements it's time to kick back and enjoy the (hopefully) brief wait until Ulduar comes out. See you on the 3.1 Public Test Realms!

Forlorn Legacy Defeats 3 Drake Sartharion
Posted by Aurelius on November 30th, 2008 @ 1:22 AM
3 Drake Sartharion, also known as Hard Mode Sartharion, the one and only encounter that could be considered challenging, has been defeated by Forlorn Legacy! From what we've been able to gather, this could very well be a top 10 US kill! We're all anxiously awaiting the next content patch, which will hopefully bring a new, challenging raid dungeon (Ulduar) to the table.
